It’s been virus virus virus non-stop in the media; printed press, visual press, radio and television.

Armageddon is upon us! Well, you’d think so with polar caps melting, floods, fires, hordes of locusts and now the ‘plague.’

And as for panic buying, don’t let me get started! There’s a short video on my Facebook personal profile if you want my take on it after doing my weekly shop.

My daughter has Crohn’s Disease and, like anyone with IBS and Ulcerative Colitis, their need for toilet paper far exceeds selfish Joanna Public’s. Use cut up squares of newspaper like we had to after World War II… Far more ecological.

My son said that to a Millennial who shrank back in disgust. Freakin’ wimp!

And people over 70 to self-isolate for 4 months at some point? No way bloody Jose! Three days at home and I’m climbing walls. Hello clinical depression and other mental health issues…

And breathe… big time.

Then counter all the scare-mongering with these three facts…

Remind yourself the Government is preparing for the worst… as we would want it to. And the worst might not happen.

Remind yourself the media love to whip up a frenzy… it sells newspapers and increases viewing ratings. And your mental health is worth more than reading-listening-to-viewing its money making scare-mongering.

Remind yourself it’s estimated only 1-3% of the affected population will die from the virus. And it’s known that 12% of the affected population die from Measles.

Watch out for measles I say!

It’s serious because this strain of virus is new to humans. The unknown always feels scary. Not being able to control the unknown is even scarier. And I believe this very human fear is even more infectious than the virus itself.

It affects many more of us with anxiety than those who’ll, in the end, actually catch the virus.

Go to the NHS online page for full information on symptoms, prevention and what to do if you fall noticeably ill with Covid-19.

Follow the recommendations and stay safe.

Love to you…
