As from 4 July we’re down to at least 1 metre social distancing.

Don’t make me laugh!

I went to my high street recently and no-one but no-one was social distancing. I actually shouted ‘IT’S TWO METRES DISTANCING’ at three people about to barge into me. Through my mask, of course!

Then we had young things spreading the virus wonderfully at illegal raves. And not so young things ramming our beaches and also spreading the virus wonderfully.

It only takes one asymptomatic person to go for a stroll along the beach and BINGO!

I also wonder WTF they do when they need the loo as all amenities are closed to prevent close contact. Swimming in the sea or, should I say, in someone else’s pee is not my idea of fun.

I think the Cummings affair, i.e., that he could with impunity break lockdown rules and not be punished for it, did the trick. The ‘If he can get away with it so can I’ mentality kicked in for a large section of people.

And that was it!

Can you tell I’m passionate about the lack of social conscience in parts of our culture?

Or is it they imagine a bad thing like catching the virus and dying won’t happen to them? Or catching the virus and surviving with damaged lungs and weakened organs won’t happen to them? Or, ‘I’m alright Jack and sod the rest of you?’

Although not a Christian, I’m remembering Christ’s compassion on getting the most votes to be numero uno crucifixion guy. ‘They know not what they do,’ he said.

And, hey, we’re back to not being conscious… They know not what they do. A large number of people, if not the majority, living life as unconscious pre-programmed robots following herd behaviour.

My son would say, ‘It is what it is, Mum.’

And he’s right. As the serenity prayer says… Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to accept the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference.

I can’t change other people but hopefully I can influence them to act for the greater good. And, ultimately, all I can do is to ensure I behave in line with my integrity and my caring for others as well as myself.

That’s all any of us can do really…

So wear a mask, keep washing your hands and stay at least 1 metre away from anyone else…

Love and warm wild wishes…

Keep well and STAY SAFE!
